The killing of Anwar al-Awlaki was wrong.
Always. No matter how you characterize it. Not, “oh but he was a bad guy so it’s ok this time.”
Always.
How is this not a million times worse than the Troy Davis execution, which was already disturbingly wrong to most people with any shred of a conscience? We characterize the War on Terror as a “war,” and even disregarding the faulty logic of battling an ideal, because it’s a war (and an unconventional one at that) there are no rules.
No trial. No evidence. Just “secrets” and an accusation from the government. Poof, he’s dead.
I don’t support the death penalty for a number of reasons, but even if you do how could you not be sickened by this? Someone just declares that you’re a bad person. If they have evidence of how bad you are they’re not required to show it to anyone. Then, they order you killed. That’s it. That’s what happened here. That’s basically a lynching.

Dear Cymbalta,
I remember when I had Mono. It wasn’t fun. So, the fact that I need another medication to prevent side effects like these, one that costs even more than you, is really frustrating. Given how shitty my health insurance is, I figured I’d see if I could do without that second medication and keep $100 for other things, especially since I need to find a new doctor if I want to get another prescription. Given how the last week has gone, that was a poor decision on my part, but we still have time to make this work.
If we could, Cymbalta, I’d like you to stop making me feel tired all day, even when I wake up after eight uninterrupted hours of sleep. Getting out of bed feeling exhausted is no fun. If you do that, I’ll work on not being a dick to everyone in my life. I might even throw in looking forward to waking up tomorrow, or at least not actively dreading it.
